Royal Visit for Dyfed Shire Horse Farm CS

A Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site had a royal visit on Tuesday 3 July.

Club Director General Robert Louden MBE joined HRH The Duchess of Cornwall at Dyfed Shire Horse Farm in Eglwyswrw, Pembrokeshire, as The Duchess of Cornwall named the first foal born on the farm in five years.

The farm is a Certificated Site, a small member-only campsite open to members of The Camping and Caravanning Club, and is one of more than 180 Certificated Sites across Wales.

After meeting the Duchess of Cornwall in the main barn, Robert said: “It was an honour to be invited to this event and join The Duchess of Cornwall to admire and celebrate the hard work of all at Dyfed Shire Horse Farm.

“Dyfed Shire Horse Farm is a great example of a farm diversifying to appeal to new audiences, including campers.”

Mark Cole, Farm Manager at Dyfed Shire Horse Farm, said: “It was an excellent visit and a privilege to welcome The Duchess of Cornwall to showcase the rare breed shire horses that have been bred on our farm for over 40 years. The farm has been worked on by my mother’s family since 1849 and eight generations have worked the land since.

“We opened the farm to the public in 1992 and the campsite shortly after that as a way to diversify our business.

“We were thrilled to invite The Duchess of Cornwall to name the first foal born on the farm in five years. She chose ‘Dyfed Merlin’ from a shortlist of three names.”
