Industry accolade for Club's Senior Technical Advisor

Iain Geddes, Senior Technical Advisor at The Camping and Caravanning Club, collected a Distinguished Service Certificate from the British Standards Institute (BSI) this morning at the Motorhome and Caravan Show, NEC Birmingham.

The certificate was awarded in recognition of Iain’s work in the creation and delivery of two key manufacturing standards for tents and awnings - that have both benefitted campers.

BSI produces standards across a wide range of industry sectors, including camping and caravanning, with a scope that spans safety features, performance and quality.

Iain has been a BSI committee member for 10 years and contributes to UK standards on tents and awnings. He is a longstanding member of The Camping and Caravanning Club and one of over 720,000 Club members across the UK. Iain’s regular work on the committee sees him help set standards that are relevant to campers, in line with latest technology and considerate of safety and performance requirements.

Maxi Brown, Capability Development Manager at Consumer Goods UK and BSI Secretary, who sits with Iain on both the camping tents and awnings committees, said: “I was delighted to nominate Iain for this award as a token of our thanks for his contributions to these standards.

“Our work is entirely voluntary and of increasing importance to the industry – Iain has a wealth of experience and an untold number of contacts. He really is evangelical about the BSI and our effort in ensuring all camping kit is safe and robust.”

Iain is also a well-known contributor to Camping & Caravanning, the monthly magazine of The Camping and Caravanning Club, yet his work at the BSI is no less important to him.

Ian Hewlett, Technical Manager at the Club, said: “The Club’s involvement in the development of these standards is massively important, and Iain is the perfect Club figurehead to help shape them.

“The BSI standards are there to benefit the end consumer. Iain, as a camper himself, can bring a wealth of personal experience to the role. He has spent many camping trips under canvas and gained a great deal of expertise in this field. Through his work on the BSI committee he has been able to share key insights and expertise both with the industry and our members.”
